Maly State Academic Theatre of Russia lately revived the production of «Tsar Boris» written by Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy. The premiere commemorates the 200th anniversary of the playwright.

Maly State Academic Theatre of Russia lately revived the production of «Tsar Boris» written by Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy. The premiere commemorates the 200th anniversary of the playwright.
The opening night took place on October 10th. The play recounts the events of the Time of Troubles and touches upon the questions of authority and power, its purpose and its means… the everlasting pressing issues.
The tragedy «Tsar Boris», directed by Vladimir Beylis, first appeared on the Maly Theatre’s stage in 1993. It was an astounding large-scale production with spectacular set design and powerful background music. Over thirty artists were involved. The main role was then played by People's Artist of the Russian Federation Vasiliy Bochkaryov.
In the revived production the role of Tsar Boris is played by People's Artist of Russia Valeriy Afanasyev. The set designer is Joseph Sumbatashvili and the composer is Georgiy Sviridov.
