Podgorodinskiy Gleb
Gleb Valeryevich Podgorodinsky was born on April 3, 1972 in Moscow. He made hisstage debut as a child when he studied at the Young Muscovite Theatre at the Pioneer Palace on the Lenin Hills). Following that he won his first award – becoming a laureate of Moscow’s contest of children and youth performances for portraying Ivan in the eponymous play by Vladimir Bogomolov.
Gleb was awarded the Veteran of Labor Medal, the Medal in Memory of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow
In 1989-93 Gleb Podgorodinsky studied at the Mikhail Semyonovich Shchepkin Higher Theatre School (the course of V.A. Safronov). In 1993, he joined the company of the Maly Theatre.
Right from the very beginning Podgorodinsky managed to set a high bar professionally and artistically. His acting, characterized by incredible charisma, allure, stage presence, charm, contagious temperament, sense of humor, positive energy is highly appreciated by both spectators and theatre professionals.
The turning point in Podgorodinsky’s career came in 2000, when he was cast as Chatsky in the famous production of «Woe from Wit» by Alexander Griboedov, directed by Sergey Zhenovach. Zhenovach lays emphasis on the theme of the first love, thus reducing the revolutionary accusatory pathos of previous interpretations of Griboyedov's comedy, which enables us to see the main character in a completely different light. Podgorodinsky’s character turned out to be angular, ingenuous, awkward, but at the same time very sincere and most importantly - an absolutely living person. Such an unusual interpretation of Griboyedov's character caused a highly controversial debate and also led to intense discussion among the audience and critics, but no one remained indifferent.
To date, Gleb Podgorodinsky is one of the most sought-after young artists of the Maly Theatre. His brilliant performance of Platon in the play «Truth Is Good, but Happiness Is Better» brought him the title of laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation.
Podgorodinsky is also engaged in private theatrical enterprises and takes part in productions of the Center for Drama and Directing directed by M. Roshchin and A.Kazantsev. Diploma winner of the All-Russian Festival of Dostoevsky's works in Staraya Russa, 1994.
Laureate and prize winner of festivals in Pskov, St. Petersburg, Perm, winner of Crystal Cylinder - for best work based on Alexander Pushkin's works on television, 1999.
He received «The Crystal Rose of Victor Rozov» Award (Russian annual literary and theater prize) for the role of Chatsky in the play «Woe from Wit», 2001.
Laureate of the «Moskovsky Komsomolets» newspaper award in the nomination «SemiMaestro» for the best male actor of the season 2004/05 for the role of Tarelkin in «The Death of Tarelkin» by Aleksandr Sukhovo-Kobylin, directed by Aleksey Kazantsev (Center for Drama and Directing)
In 2005 Podgorodinsky was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
