Maly Theatre dedicates its new production of «The Masquerade» to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Lermontov, the great Russian poet. The poetic drama, set in 1830's St. Petersburg decadent aristocratic society, tells a story about passion, treachery and love, purity, and the darkness inside the human soul.

The performance was staged by director Andrei Zhitinkin in Sergei Barkhin’s lavish set with costumes developed by the famous fashion designer, Vyacheslav Zaycev.

The production of «The Masquerade» is also dedicated to the 70th anniversary of People's Artist of Russia, Boris Klyuyev, who plays Arbenin on stage. Also on the stage the leading actors of Maly Theatre: Boris Nevzorov, Vladimir Nosik and others.

The performance is accompanied by music by People's Artist of the Soviet Union, Recipient of the USSR State Prize Aram Khachaturian and Johannes Brahms.
